I made a decision in the beginning of 2024. That it is time to make a shift in my career. I’ve been in my current role for so long, and I was good at it. But when you are in the thick of a situation you tend to forget what you are sacrificing, what you have gotten used to after doing it for so long.
I had an opportunity to move into Cyber Security, and I am pretty sure few other people would have gotten the position. I had very little to almost zero experience in cyber, but what I did have was a extreme in-depth knowledge of the company, the systems, the people and the technologies being used. This got me over the line. And this is where my life changed.
I was in the deep-end of it and from August 2024 I’ve been learning like you wont believe. New tools, new systems, new technologies. I’ve even started using Ubunto as my daily driver.
And you know what. I LOVE IT.
Not only am I doing something I love, something that I can come back to my desk late at night and continue with it, but I got something else back, something I forgot I lost…
My after-work life.
No longer bound to my phone, no longer walking around with that subtle but constant thread running in the back of my head stressing about when the next crisis call will be.
It has changed my life, my relationship.
So here’s to life in Cyber Security. I am learning every day and I am motivated more than ever to become the best Threat Hunter there is.
