January is a thing of the past, February here we go! Now would be a good time to take stock of the goals you set yourself at the beginning of the year. Have you achieved some of them? Are you in the process of achieving them? Or have the wheels come off and you are still stuck in 2012?
Here is an update on my goals:
1. Health (Body & Soul): I hit a bit of a snag at the start of Jan with the stomach virus, but I am back on my feet, feeling as good as it gets. I started going to the gym again, and playing squash with my wife (Awesome!). I haven’t quite gotten into the pumping iron thing yet, but I am getting there. My goal is on track. When it comes to Eating healthier, I believe I am doing great (thanks to my wife). My wife being a vegetarian (kinda) helps a lot. I am cutting out unhealthy meats and sweets and I am focusing more on a plant based diet. Less pasta, more fish, less chocolates and coffee, more tea and fruits.
2. Career. So far so good. I somehow received motivation from somewhere which allows me to spend time at work doing new things, and learning new skills. My future here is still a bit misty, but come end of March it will be as clear as crystal. I find myself thinking more and more about a passive income. We all want to be at a place where our money works for US and we don’t have to work for IT. More about this in another post.
4. Family and Friends: Also on par. As crazy as the year have kicked off for most people, I find that I have the time to meet-up with friends, have the breakfast and connect. Obviously it is easier said than done. Our weekends tend to be booked way too far in advance, but looking back at those busy weekends it is worth it. It does not take away from other priorities, which would have been my main concern if it did.
5. Spiritually: Moving very slowly, I haven’t quite gotten into a routine of spending time with God and connecting with Him in the way that I would like to. I need to create a small habit here and build on it. I need to make the sacrifice and put in the time required. I know this is what I need and I know this will greatly benefit me and all those around me. I am managing to read more, and I’m reading stuff that matters. I watch a lot of PODCasts, and I engage with people on these topics. But as I said, I know what I need to do to connect more with God, and for me it is quiet, one-on-one time. Almost like meditating.
In the end goals is just a step towards something, a step towards that which is important to you. This is the entire point of goals right? Goals are there to help you achieve the things that are important to you. Do you know what is important? Is it something that is significant? Does it make a difference in the lives of others? Do you even care about others? Someone once said “Success without significance is not success at all”. Makes one think.. what does it mean to do something significant?
